Noize Noize Noize

June 30, 2009

I swear I’ve seen almost every electronic act on this planet. Ultra Music Fest knocked out like 80% of those I needed to see. But perhaps the most surprisingly delightful banger is Boys Noize, the German skull-obsessed DJ who’s Oi Oi Oi still stands as one of the best electro albums released this century. His newest single, “Jeffer” picks up where he left off with such jams like “Lava Lava” that have continued to ignite dance floors (and my room). A summer-y tune that lifts off immediately, “Jeffer” is Boys Noize’s proclamation that he hasn’t gone anywhere. And if you get the chance to see him live– do it. It’s not everyday you get to go nuts to images of floating skulls.

Wait For Me

June 24, 2009

Long has Moby’s dance jams screamed through my speakers. His last album, Last Night, went criminally under the radar even for a big market name like his. The shiny-head DJ killled it at Ultra Music Festival in Miami this year, crushing bigger names like Guetta, Tiesto and MSTRKRFT. But for his latest album, Wait for Me, he decided to go an entirely different direction- these tunes are ripe for a lonely walk in the park, not the club like so much of his previous material. He himself has claimed that this is the only album since his first that he would actually enjoy listening to, and I can see why. Each track emits such a vibrant emotion, and plays off the prior with such grace that it is a crime not to listen to it in its entirety. I dare you to listen to this album without getting sucked in by its soul– whatever your mood was before you pressed play, I swear to you, it has changed dramatically, molded by Moby’s genius.

I’ve never had a harder time picking just one track to post– it’s like giving you one step of a ladder and asking you to imagine how high it goes. So, I’m giving two.

I’m at the Pizza Hut, I’m at the Taco Bell

June 10, 2009

I don’t think I’ve ever come across a song that I equal parts love and hate. I love, because it’s the catchiest, most amazingly entertaining tune to sing this side of “867-5309.” I hate, because I walk around all day singing “I’m at the pizza hut, I’m at the taco bell, I’m at the combination pizza hut and taco bell.” After days of having that being the only piece of inner-dialogue in my head, I have begun to go a bit loco. But would I wish this upon anyone else? Absolutely. Das Racist have created the ultimate summer anthem, a shimmering, LCD Soundsystem-sounding groove that I have yet to stop playing on repeat. It’s been a long time since a song has taken over my entire being more than this massive, massive track. You’ll never be able to drive by a combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell again without chanting this jam.
